Astrology – More Than Just Your Sun Sign!
There is much more to astrology than just your sun sign. We have all read our daily horoscopes in the newspapers, but of course, that gives us a very general outlook. To get a fuller understanding of how you can be affected by the planets, you can also look at various elements in your birth chart.
Where certain planets fall and which houses they affect, can give important pointers to you or your loved one’s personalities. From an astrological point of view, many aspects can, therefore, be revealed. What you are likely to have gone through in your childhood, your good and bad points, how you can communicate and much more. When you know these basics, they can give you interesting insight.
Once you have this knowledge and you recognise certain traits about yourself, you can, as a result, use them to your best advantage. As well as this, any bad points can be worked on. But the first step to all of this is recognition.
There are 12 houses in a birth chart, and each of them covers a different aspect of one’s life. In a birth chart circle of 360 degrees, each house, therefore, takes up 30 degrees of the full circle. Each house is ruled by a different sign of the Zodiac.
The First House; Your personality, self-image. This is your sun sign.
The Second House; Money, basic values, material matters.
The Third House; Communication.
The Fourth House; Your family, roots, security.
The Fifth House; Creativity, love and romance, play.
The Sixth House; Health, home, practicality.
The Seventh House; Your Love relationships and Marriage.
The Eighth House; Your Sexuality and transformation.
The Ninth House; Education, belief systems, travel.
The Tenth House; Your career, profession, responsibility.
The Eleventh House; Your hopes and goals, groups.
The Twelfth House; Your privacy, secrets, the unconscious, the soul connection.
There are nine planets and each of these planets is thought to “control” or “be responsible for” one or more aspects in an astrological reading.
The Sun; Inner self, personality, the ego, the Yang element.
The Moon; Emotions, the yin element.
Mercury; Thought process and communication, reasoning.
Venus; Appreciation of beauty, love and relationships, creativity.
Mars; Energy, drive, courage.
Jupiter; Progress, growth and expansion.
Saturn; Limitations, convictions, endurance.
Uranus; Intuition, eureka moments, inspiration, being open to the unknown.
Neptune; Dreams, spiritual connection.
Pluto; Personal power, the ability to re-create, the cycle of life.
Furthermore, there are also extra stars and asteroids that may play important roles in your personal chart. The explanations above are general summaries and each house actually encompasses many extra elements.
PUTTING IT ALL TOGETHER
If you give an astrologer the date, time and the place you were born, they can, of course, draw up a birth chart and look at your aspects. These days, there are of course computer programmes that create these in moments. The interpretation of the birth chart is, however, quite complex. Most computer programmes will give you a standard print out. This does not take into consideration all your aspects and what they mean. In many cases, they can be quite confusing.
Each of us will have all the 9 planets listed above falling in one house of our birth chart. In some cases, a planet may also fall on a “cusp.” This means it is on the line between two houses. Furthermore, each planet will fall at so many degrees within that house. This means that you may have stronger or weaker aspects and personality traits in certain areas.
Your ascendant can also be looked at and is important since, in astrology, this dictates how the outside world sees you; the image you give to the world.
The complex part then begins. Depending on where the planets fall and into which houses, there can be complementary elements or conflictual aspects. For example, two planets that are opposite each other and oppose one another can show conflictual aspects in a certain area. You will also have conjunctions and favourable placements that are complementary to one another.
Once your birth chart has been analysed, an astrologer can then look at your aspects going forwards, according to the movement of the planets. Astrology can, therefore, look at your past, your present and of course your future.
Astrology is considered by many to be a science. It is a wide subject that encompasses many areas.
