International Women’s Day – 8th March 2020
Each year we celebrate International Women’s Day on the 8th of March. The origin of this day dates back to 1909. The Socialist Party of America organised a women’s day. This was such a success that it became an annual event. By 1917 the Soviet Russian women gained suffrage and this was a game-changer in so many ways. By the year 1975, the day was adopted as a recognised day by the United Nations.
The Theme for International Women’s Day 2020
Our lovely home and studio psychic Luna (Pin 6853) presents us with a look at this year!
“The original aim of International Woman’s Day was to achieve full gender equality for women in the world. To this day, this has not been realised. Estimations show us that the gender pay gap won’t close until the year 2186! In 2019 from the 14th of November until the end of that year, women worked effectively for ‘free’ of the gender pay gap.
There has been a particular focus on what women have achieved with the #metoomovement giving a voice to abuse and harassment they suffer in film, fashion, music, politics, and art. This year’s theme is #EachforEqual which recognises all of the actions we can each take to challenge stereotypes, fight prejudice and celebrate women’s achievements.”
