Love, Self-Love and Tarot – By Kristina (pin 6917)
Sometimes it can feel like we are battered by the storms of life. It feels as though we become worn away. Much in the same way waves erode a cliff face. We lose self-respect, we lose self-love and we therefore undervalue ourselves. When we find ourselves single, we go on a quest to attract love into our lives.
Though it does not always work. We attract the wrong person or we find ourselves trapped into a toxic relationship. When someone leaves us, however horrid they have been, we want them back. All we do is pile negative feelings of ourselves, onto what is already lurking beneath the surface.
Therefore we get caught in this trap that no one loves us. We take the first person that offers us the smallest amount of attention. More often than not, this relationship turns sour and we end up in ever decreasing circles. Sometimes it is very hard to break this cycle, because we try not to acknowledge that we don’t like ourselves or even why we don’t. Learning to love the person you are as an individual, is a great way of bringing balance back into our lives.
Tarot can be a good tool for identifying what aspects of ourselves we are trying to hide from. Even if the reason may seem glaringly obvious, such as the 10 of Swords. If this does appear in a reading where you are trying to see how to move forward, this can mean that you have not allowed yourself time to heal from this hurt. Learning to move on is quite important in establishing self-love. Sometimes we do not want to face the pain, thinking we have ‘got over it’ when truly what we have done is pretend to ourselves it isn’t a problem any more.
Let’s use another example of a card, The Star. This to me shows there is hope, things maybe dark now but light will once more will be returning to our lives. But in a spread where we are identifying what aspects of ourselves, we are hiding from, it could mean we are still clinging onto the dark, because we are afraid to believe good things can come to us again.
When we learn to identify what aspects our lives we need to address, we can work on loving ourselves again. Sometimes this may involve professional help, sometimes this may involve holistic healing and sometimes we can work what we need to do ourselves. Whatever the way forward, it is a really positive step on the journey.
What happens when we love ourselves? We stop accepting second best, we learn to see our true worth. We learn to say no, we learn although our heart and soul wants to be loved. Learning that we deserve someone who will respect us, cherish us and work in a mutual way of communication and problem solving. In short, we can create a relationship, not a one-sided romance. We can attract to ourselves the right sort of love.
Before I sign of this, I would like to make one point. Self-love is not the same as being egotistical. It is is knowing our worth based on fact and not having to shout from the roof tops about how fabulous we are. Self-love is being true to the moral values we hold. Self-love is many aspects and a very potent force for good.
