How and why I designed my own cards
Th Story of the Hands of an Angel Oracle Cards.
By Hands of an Angel
When I first started reading the cards, I always read using the Ryder Waite tarot pack and was happy for many years. I went out and bought other packs of cards, but in all their packs, I felt something was missing that resonated with my gentleness and the personality of my work. Then one day an idea came. Why not design my own cards? This is the story of The Hands of an Angel Oracle cards and how they came about.
The start of the idea
How do I do it? Where do I start? Firstly, I asked my angel guides as they were the ones who gave me my name Hands of an Angel. A few weeks later, I kept getting topics/names/headings such as seek and find, secrets and many more, so I wrote them all down, all 32 of them. This was the start of the Hands of an Angel Oracle Cards Deck.
Then came the numbers to the titles. I felt this was important so that the numbers and the images on the cards corresponded well. I do numerology as part of my readings, so this match was of importance to me. At this stage, we are now talking 9 months having passed!
Next, I needed pictures to address the titles and number and an angel in every card. Not much to ask, as I can’t even draw! So back to square one again.
My angel guides showed me the pictures to go with the titles in my dreams. This happened over the course of many months, even a year.
As I can’t draw, I needed an artist to help me interpret all the pictures that I had in my head. I asked my guides to bring someone when the time was ready.
The Pictures come to Life!
One day a lady called Mandy came into my shop and asked if I could sell some cards and paintings for her. As we got talking, I knew she had that gentleness and the right skills to do my drawings. Over time, I explained the pictures in my head, and she drew them on paper. So while this took time, eventually this part was now history! All 32 card designs were drawn on paper, each with its own number and title. We are now talking two and a half years that had gone by since my original concepts.
So now, I’ve got all my cards on A4 paper but do not have them printed. This part would be easy to move forwards- NOT!!!
I rang local and far away printers to no avail. They couldn’t do it, I wanted the sole rights as they were mine, otherwise no problem. 3 years had now passed.
One day I had a new first edition newspaper dropped into the shop, and this was from a new printers in my area. “Wow,” I thought, “I’ve won the jackpot!” I went straight over with my drawing and to cut long story short they said YES.
I thought ok, in 4 weeks they will be out. But Oh NO again!
I needed a graphic designer and an ISBN number to register. All of this took more time and once it was all done, I went back to the printers. With all in tow, of course.
They then printed only 1000 boxes like I said I wanted. I wanted to be able to control how they were sold .I couldn’t believe my eyes when I first saw them! They were beautiful and just right. They could be read by children and adults and that was my aim.
Was it all worth it in the end?
I am so proud of them and of my journey! Ok, it was a journey that took 4 years! But it was worth it! I still love my cards and use them all the time. The Hands of a Angel Oracle cards are there as a legacy!
But I would stress if you ever want to have a go yourself, you don’t have to go to a printers. Just make them for yourself and laminate them. Show how your inner feeling can be put on your cards and use them. There are some of the psychic readers on Psychic Today who have done so, just for themselves and their own use only.
I am now in the proceeds of making affirmation cards, but it won’t take me 4 years this time round!
Love to all!
